Sprinkler success for the Liverpool Marriott Hotel
Merseyside Fire Service reports that on Saturday 17 July 2004 at around 17.00, fire broke out in a second floor bedroom in the Liverpool Marriott. A single sprinkler head operated in the room and completely extinguished the fire before the fire service arrived some 2 minutes after the first call.
Damage was confined to a small amount of direct burning and a little water damage in the room and corridor. The Fire Service reports that the damage would have been far worse through fire and smoke spread if sprinklers had not been fitted.
When Marriott took over the management of this centrally located hotel it retrofitted it with a sprinkler system. The system was installed only a year ago.
