Blade decision great news for Portsmouth as Developers pledge to introduce life-saving sprinklers – 17th August 2011
The Business Sprinkler Alliance today has praised the decision by developers to now introduce sprinklers (“BSA”) into the 33-storey ‘Blade’ tower to be built in Portsmouth’s city centre.

Following previous meetings where the developers initially indicated that sprinklers would not be included within the design they have subsequently taken the views of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service into consideration and initiated further positive discussions. As a result of those discussions, Watkin Jones have made the commitment that sprinklers will be installed throughout the residential accommodation within the building. Read More..

Mid and West Wales Sprinkler Incidents: 3rd August 2011
Station Manager Marc Williams from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has used the new CFOA sprinkler incident pro-forma to report on two recent incidents in South Wales where sprinklers activated.

The first occurred at just after 7am on the 6th June 2011 in a second floor office at Boots the Chemist situated in the Quadrant shopping centre in Swansea. There were 5 persons at work in the 1900m² shop at the time of the fire.

One sprinkler head on the OH3 mains fed system was reported to have actuated which controlled the fire in under 3 minutes resulting in fire damage to only 5% of the room. 10 Fire service personnel were involved at the incident and were mostly engaged in salvage operations. Read More..
