Executive Summary 2005 - Ronnie King - NFSN Vice Chair

The strategy and purpose of the NFSN is to work in partnership with the Fire Community to promote awareness of the value of fire sprinklers for life safety and the protection of property and the environment.

Ronnie King OBE, OstJ, QFSM, F.I.FireE
NFSN Vice Chair/Treasurer (Former Chief Fire Officer Mid and West Wales)

The NFSN do this by:

a) working in tandem  (so far as is possible) with the aims and objectives of CFOA, FPA, FIC, BAFSA, EFSN, FIA, IFE, ASFP, FOBFO, FSDG, LGA, FBU, FSC, NUT, THE PASSIVE FIRE SAFETY INDUSTRY and others with similar aims, to continue to press for the inclusion of Sprinklers in future reviews of The Building Regulations Approved Document B and the true reflection of the cost of fire on our society.

b) Working with Legislators and the industry, developing innovative solutions which allow for a wider use of sprinklers in building design.

c) Collecting information where sprinkler actuation has taken place and highlighting such successes in partnership with other UK Associations i.e. BAFSA, EFSN, SES.

d) Holding frequent seminars for key groups, such as Chartered Surveyors, Architects , Social Landlords, Environmental Health Officers, and Building Control Officers,

e) Continuing the ongoing lobbying of Peers and MP's, including high profile seminars at the Palace of Westminster.

f) Developing the Network's website, linking where useful, to other websites i.e. Fire & Rescue Services and industry partners.

g) Continue to work with others to continue to highlight the unacceptable cost of fire to the environment and society in general.

h) Pressing for further funding in order that the Network can be even more effective.
