National Fire Sprinkler Network Mission Statement

The NFSN will work with others: Local, National and European Government, with the fire and construction industry and with other public sector and business stakeholders to seek reductions in the incidence of death, injury and damage to people, resources and the environment from fire by promoting the provision of holistic and risk specific control measures such as sprinklers.

NFSN Aims are to:

  1. Reduce the loss of life in fires.
  2. Reduce the number and severity of injuries from fire including the risk to firefighters.
  3. Reduce the commercial, economic, environmental and social impact of fires.
  4. Safeguard our environment and heritage.
  5. Reduce the impact of arson on society.
  6. Reduce the disproportionate impact of fires on vulnerable groups.

NFSN Objectives:

Reduce the loss of life in fires – The NFSN will do this by:

  • Supporting National Campaigns for improving community safety education about fire.
  • Campaigning for the inclusion of fire sprinklers into all new social housing (including HMO’s), care homes, nursing homes and halls of residence.
  • Aspiring to achieve sprinkler protection for all new build residential property.
  • Campaigning for wider acceptance of sprinkler protection in Hotels

Reducing the number and severity of injuries from fire including the risk to firefighters – The NFSN will do this by:

  • Lobbying in political, public, private and social sectors for wider acceptance of the life safety benefits of sprinkler protection in all high risk building types;
    • This will protect people resorting to those buildings from the effects of fire, and
    • Maintain tenability for firefighters to gain access to a building on fire and deal with the incident safel

Reduce the commercial, economic, environmental and social impact of fires – The NFSN Will do this by:

  • Working with others to facilitate a co-ordinated approach in educating and informing society, private, public and social sectors of the benefits of fire sprinklers.
  • Campaigning and lobbying for the wider recognition of sprinkler protection as an asset protection and business continuity measure.
  • Encouraging research and development of sprinkler technology to make the provision of sprinkler protection as cost effective as possible.

Safeguard our environment and heritage – The NFSN will do this by:

  • Campaigning for sprinkler protection in heritage buildings and of national treasures.
  • Lobbying to gain recognition of the significant environmental benefit of sprinkler protection in reducing the production of fire effluent both air and water borne pollutants that damage our environment when fire occurs.

Reduce the impact of arson on society – The NFSN will do this by:

  • Campaigning and continuing to lobby for the wider acceptance and provision of sprinklers in schools and colleges and all other premises at high risk from arson.

Reduce the disproportionate impact of fire on vulnerable groups – The NFSN will do this by:

  • Campaigning and Lobbying for the provision of sprinkler protection in:
    • Care/Nursing Homes
    • Houses in Multiple Occupation
    • Boarding Schools and Halls of Residence
    • High Rise Dwellings
    • Social Housing
    • Prisons and Detention Centres

Our Purpose:

The core purpose of the NFSN is "To work in partnership with the Fire Community to promote awareness of the value of fire sprinklers for life safety and the protection of property and the environment." "The NFSN is a non-profit making organisation and will not permit commercial considerations to affect its deliberations and decisions.
