Sprinkler save at Congleton medical production facility : Thursday 16th February 2017 The boss of a medical firm today praised a sprinkler system which saved his business from ruin after an electrical fire at about 03:00 in the morning. The depot at Congleton-based Reliance Medical Limited, which manufactures products such as dressings and first aid kits suffered a fire in the early hours of the morning. Thankfully, the sprinkler system operated to assist the F&RS crews, protecting an estimated £2 million in stock and the entire building. Manchester Mill: 11th February 2017

Overnight on 11th February 2017 Greater Manchester F&RS attended a fire in an extensive old multi-occupancy mill complex just outside the city centre. Fortunately it was sprinklered and the fire only affected a small section, being contained and extinguished within a couple of hours. On Saturday morning (4.2.17), crews were called to a fire at the Asda Superstore, Bruton Way, Gloucester. It was a deliberate fire started in the clothing department; CCTV and online media shows how quickly the fire developed. The fire was suppressed by the sprinkler system that activated only in the area of the fire. Two breathing apparatus wearers were committed to the fire and dealt with it very quickly due to the suppression effect of the sprinklers. Machine fire at Scunthorpe factory 'believed to be accidental ignition. THE fire service said a machine blaze at a Scunthorpe factory was believed to be caused by "accidental ignition". The incident happened at the International Automotive Components factory unit on Park Farm Road on the Foxhills Industrial Estate and five crews responded shortly before 10.55pm on Thursday, February 2, 2017 Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the fire involved a plastic moulding machine inside a building 150 meters by 300 meters. Shotton recycling facility 31st January 2017 At just after 10pm on Tuesday 31st January 2017 a fire occurred within a concrete bunker with sheet metal covering at a 4000m² material recycling centre in Shotton on Deeside.North wales F&RS deployed 6 Pumps, one Aerial appliance and a Command unit. Waste materials form the recycling process discharged into a waste bunker where a small fire started. Sprinkler save at food outlet in Glasgow retail complex: 28th January 2017 At 07:54 on Saturday 28th January 2017 a fire occurred at a ground floor food outlet in the Savoy Centre, 140 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow . The building, measuring 60m x40m, is a category B listed former 5 storey warehouse of steel framed construction with 'Celotex' lining, concrete walls and ceiling. London Bridge tube station: 31st January 2017

A busy Tube station was evacuated after smoke billowed from an escalator which had caught fire. Alarms sounded at London Bridge station shortly before midday on Tuesday and crowds of passengers were ushered outside. The station’s sprinkler system was set off by the smoke and quickly brought the fire under control, London Fire Brigade said. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised at 11.45am. Tube services on the Jubilee and Northern lines were not stopping at the station while officials dealt with the incident. The station reopened at 12.35pm. Peterborough food factory: 30th January 2016

This report appeared in the local press. Firefighters were called after a fault in the food filtration system set alight to the roof at the McCain factory in Peterborough. Crews from Stanground, Whittlesey, and Dogsthorpe were called to the fire at the McCain food processing factory in Funthams Lane at 2.48pm on Friday, January 27. Sprinklers were activated after the fire started in the food filtration system but it also spread to the roof. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and returned their stations by 4.20pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

Sunderland factory offices: 21st January 2017

This as reported in the North-east press Firefighters have tackled a blaze inside a Rolls-Royce factory in Sunderland . Crews from Sunderland Central and Marley Park were called to the large factory unit in Pallion Industrial Estate at 9.15am on Saturday 21st January 2017 A fire had broken out in an office block inside the main body of the factory which makes helicopter parts. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service say one office suffered fire damage, with smoke spreading to six other offices. The flames were doused by the factory’s sprinkler system, a hose reel and a carbon dioxide extinguisher. Firefighters found the cause of the fire was an electrical fault.

: A recycling plant in Gateshead was saved from serious damage thanks to a sprinkler system which activated after a fire broke out in the early morning of Monday, 16 January. Two Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swalwell and Gateshead were called to the waste management company’s premises after a compactor bailing machine caught fire shortly after 5am. The building is 20,000sqm. The incident involved a chemical vapour fire over an industrial adhesive filling process. The process uses 6641 coating adhesive which contains 35% Toluene. Ashton under Lyne industrial laundry: 28th December 2016 Malcolm Reade at AD Sprinklers reports that on the evening of Wednesday 28th December a fire occurred in a dryer at an industrial laundry in Ashton under Lyne, Manchester. The fire was severe enough to activate one upright sprinkler head on the sprinkler system which was dry pipe at this location. Liverpool restaurant: 20th December 2016 A fire broke out in the third floor plant room of Jamies Italian restaurant in Liverpool around midnight on 20th December, a project J&J undertook back in 2010. Merseyside FRS say they set up fans to clear the smoke from the building and it was the restaurant’s automatic sprinkler system which helped contain the fire to the room it started in. As a direct result the loss of trade will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Bristol shopping complex 18th December 2016

Thousands of people were evacuated from Bristol's biggest shopping during the busiest weekend of the year due to a blaze in a store room. Flames broke out in a back store room of Cribbs Causeway at around 4:18pm but the fire was extinguished by the store's sprinklers before fire fighters arrived. Thousands of shoppers making a last dash for their Christmas presents were then asked to leave immediately. Crews attended from Patchway and the cause of the blaze will now be investigated.
