London recycling centre save 13th January 2018 At about 2:15pm on Saturday 13th January 2018. London fire Brigade received a call to a fire at a 2 storey , 200m x 100m recycling facility in Edmonton, London. The fire occurred within a fibre recycling unit within the main structure which consists of 4 floors each about 30m x30m. LFB mobilised 4 appliances to the incident which stared in cardboard waste material. The building is fitted with a stored water sprinkler system at roof level and there is a second system in the processing plant (e.g. beneath conveyors). Sprinkler save at Sheffield school: Tuesday 9th January2018 At 23:52 hours on Tuesday 9th January 2018 a fire occurred in a classroom designated for art at a school in Sheffield. The fire was caused by electrical equipment being left switched on which set light to adjacent paper and a display board South Yorkshire FRS mobilised two appliances but on arrival the fire had been controlled by one sprinkler head in the classroom and no fire-fighting action was required. Prompt action by the attending crews prevented excessive water usage and reduced the effect so that the school reopened as normal the following day with only a small area of the arts classroom affected. London apartments underground service car park : 5th December 2017 At 07:36 on Tuesday 5th December 2017, London Fire Brigade were called to a report of fire in a 30m x15m underground service car park at an 11 storey apartment block in Lime harbour, E14. This is part of Baltimore Wharf, a site of 12 buildings and the Arena tower of 46 floors. The 12 buildings are mixed commercial and residential with some affordable housing. Northants hotel: 3rd December 2017

At 00:35 on Sunday the 3rd December 2017 we received a call to as fire within a bedroom within a Hotel in Northamptonshire. An electrical heater had ignited and one sprinkler head within the room activated extinguishing the fire prior to the arrival of the fire service. Sprinklers installed to BSEN 12845 and had been retrospectively fitted within the premises. Evacuation of staff and guest took place and worked well. A little over half an hour after fire service arrived the room and been check, area ventilated and the guests were being allowed back into the building. Morpeth retail store car park: 12th November 2017 On Sunday 12th November 2017 a deliberate fire occurred in some rubbish stored in a car park area of a large retail store in Morpeth, Northumberland. Sratford (London) shopping centre: 11th November 2017

At 17:14 hours on 11th November, London FB received a call to the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford where a fire had occurred in a second floor service area.The centre was evacuated safely of the thousand or so persons there at the time. Three pumping appliances were mobilised but on arrival it was discivered that the centre sprinkler system had suppressed the fire, limiting theneed for further resources or prolonged fire-fighting action. Some stock items were damaged but a Brigade sprokesperson said the sprinklers had undoubtedly saved thousands of pouds worth of loss. Four fire engines and 21 fire-fighters were called to a fire in student accommodation in Angel Lane, Stratford, where a small fire in a communal kitchen was controlled by a single sprinkler head. King's Lynn factory: 10th November 2017

Sprinklers helped contain a fire which broke out accidentally at a massive paper mill. Staff at Palm Paper’s plant at Saddlebow, in King’s Lynn, raised the alarm on Friday morning. On Saturday 9th November 2017 at 1215, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at Amazon Services Ltd, Leahall Way, Grazeley Park, Rugeley, WS15 1UX. This is a storage facility of 63,000sqm and is 16m in height. The fire was located in the picking tower, an area of the warehouse which has 10m high steel racking. Between the racking, walkways have been installed to form four floors including ground to allow pickers access to each level. There is a small gap between the walkway and the racking system. FIREFIGHTERS have spent the early hours tackling a blaze after smoke was reported coming from a single storey warehouse. Crews were called to Vernacare, in Folds Road, at 3.47am on Wednesday 18th October Fire-fighters using breathing apparatus, hose reels and fans to put out the blaze, which involves cardboard bed pans and urine bottles. Stanley Mill, Shackleton Street, Burnley: 15th October 2017

At 03:34 hours on Sunday 15th October 2017, Lancashire F&RS received a call to a fire at Stanley Mill in Burnley. Two pumping appliances were mobilised Stanley Mill is a three storey stone built heritage building configured into multi occupied industrial units. It has a north light roof. The fire occurred in wooden waste products in a ground floor unit but fortunately one upright head on the buildings tank fed sprinkler system activated to keep the fire in check prior to the arrival of the Fire Service. Crews spent 90 minutes ensuring the fire was fully extinguished and ventilating the area. Damage was reported as being 50m².
