Sprinkler save at South Wales school: 7th November 2015


At 1353 hours on Saturday 7th November 2015, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire in a freezer unit located in the kitchen of Abercynon Community Primary School, Ynysmeurig Road, Abercynon.


3 appliances were mobilised to the 2 storey school measuring approximately 60x30m and opened in July 2013. 


2 breathing apparatus wearers and a hose reel were deployed to fight the fire but fortunately the school is equipped with a full sprinkler system and a single sprinkler-head activated and was sufficient to extinguish the fire. There was only slight damage in the kitchen area.


South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were grateful for the early support provided by staff and friends of the school and due to these early interventions the school opened as normal on the Monday 9th November.
