Concentric pumps Ltd, Erdington, Birmingham: 23rd April 2017.......................................
The following is an extract from the Sutton Coldfield Observer
A fire occurred at around 6am on Sunday (April 23rd) at Concentric Pumps Limited at Gravelly Industrial Park , off Tyburn Road. Green watch crews from Erdington Fire Station, along with crews from Aston and Ward End sent to the scene following an alarm activation.
Fire crews saw smoke 'issuing from the roof' of the two-storey factory, which was 80 metres by 165 metres and forced their way in to the premises. The fire service sent in six officers using breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze at the site.
The fire was found and contained in a ground floor room of the large two-storey factory, which makes hydraulic gear products and diesel engine pumps. The electricity was also isolated.
Extensive damage was caused to the room but the fire was stopped from spreading with the help of the factory’s sprinkler system.
Green watch commander Ade Caulwell said: “The fire was contained by the sprinkler system but there was heavy smoke logging to the building which made locating the source of the fire difficult, as it is in many fires that we attend.
“Investigations have found that the incident was accidental and caused by an overheating machine. The sprinkler system has enabled the business to open as normal on Monday."
