London recycling centre save 13th January 2018

At about 2:15pm on Saturday 13th January 2018. London fire Brigade received a call to a fire at a 2 storey , 200m x 100m recycling facility in Edmonton, London. The fire occurred within a fibre recycling unit within the main structure which consists of 4 floors each about 30m x30m.

LFB mobilised 4 appliances to the incident which stared in cardboard waste material.

The building is fitted with a stored water sprinkler system at roof level and there is a second system in the processing plant (e.g. beneath conveyors). Because the fire occurred near the top of the plant it was controlled by a single sprinkler head at roof level. The fire was also tackled with portable extinguishers but staff withdrew shortly before the arrival of the brigade.

Crews had extinguished the fire within 1hour and 20 minutes with the fire damage being recorded 10% of the second floor in the fibre recycling unit.
