Sprinklers suppress fire in motorcycle tyre buffing machine: Melksham, Wiltshire 12th April 2018
A fire started when a tyre machine developed an electrical fault, the serious fire was stopped from spreading by the activation of a sprinkler system. Fire crews from Trowbridge supported by crews from Corsham and Melksham attended the fire in the town’s Bath Road area at 08:25am on Thursday 12th April.
The Incident Commander sent a message back that “fire involving tyre buffing machine on ground floor of premises appears to have been extinguished by sprinkler installation…crews investigating with thermal imaging camera”.
Area Manager Seth Why, Head of Protection and Prevention said “Fortunately, there was a sprinkler system in the factory that activated, this undoubtedly suppressed the spread of the fire until the arrival of the fire crews. This incident really shows the value of sprinklers and how effective they can be in stopping the spread of fires.”
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service fully support sprinklers as they play a positive role in protecting life, reducing the economic and environmental cost of fire in any building they are installed in.
